The Guided Ride Series (GRS) is a free program that teaches people how to navigate Greater Boston by bike. We'll guide you along the comfortable, separated bike infrastructure and demonstrate how easy, convenient, and fun it can be to ride a bike in Boston. Over the last 15 years, Greater Boston has built a growing network of robust infrastructure for bikes that overlaps significantly with the MBTA. The GRS will teach you where and how to make seamless connections with the T that increase your mobility options. Weekday and weekend options are available beginning in April 2025. Click the 'sign up' button below to reserve your free spot. Each ride has room for eight people so sign up with friends, family, or colleagues to bring some added fun to the experience!
*The Guided Ride Series is designed for people who already know how to ride a bicycle and are interested but concerned about riding in a downtown setting. This is NOT a learn-to-bike program
Want to learn on your own? We have compiled additional free mapping resources to help plan your route and ride on your own. You can view a series of 'How-To' videos that cover safety, gear, weather, and more. Click the buttons below for more details.
On Saturdays and Sundays this spring and summer, rides will begin on one of the many regional pathways that feed into Downtown: The Northern Strand; The Community Path / Minuteman Bikeway; The Charles River Paths; The Southwest Corridor; and The Neponset River Greenway. GRS will take you from the bike path into the downtown core and give you a tour of the comfortable cycletracks connecting Boston, Cambridge, and Somerville. Along the way, you'll learn how to ride around the city with confidence, how to make seamless connections with the MBTA, where to park your bike, tips for safe riding at intersections, and more! Each of these rides does a lap of our Urban Loop route before heading back out of town. Rides will conclude by returning to the starting location.
Meeting location and other details will be provided when you sign-up. Make sure your bike is in good working order by performing an ABC check at least one day before your scheduled ride to ensure sufficient time to make any needed repairs or adjustments.
If weekends don't work for you, the Guided Ride Series offers free 90-minute rides that focus on the Urban Loop of comfortable, separated bike facilities. Every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday (weather permitting), Guided Rides will leave from Urban AdvenTours at 103 Atlantic Ave in Boston, and meander through Boston, Cambridge, and Somerville before returning to the shop. Designed for people who are already downtown for work or school, you can bring your own bike or borrow one for free from Urban AdvenTours. Grab some co-workers and reserve your ride below!
